Brunching at Wild Honey, Mandarin Gallery, Singapore

After having rice or noodles practically for every meal... (Hey! I found a joint selling $2.50 for rice, 2 vegetable and 1 meat serving... Imagine $2.50 for each meal!! hmph!), it's quite refreshing to pop over here for brunch.

I saw this on one of the meetups, but unfortunately, I was only always on the waiting list...  So, when S's cuz suggested this place for brunch, I was all too happy to oblige!

You really need to book as the place fills up pretty quick.  We had a 1pm booking, so, I was there 5 mins to 1pm.. and waited... and waited...

Where is that girl!!?  Turned out, she was chatting or being chatted up by some hot guy trying to sell her face cream! hmm... I guess we know what he's trying to put on her face.. ;)

ok ok.. enough with the crude joke.. We are here to talk about food!

Anyway, while waiting for her, I kept flicking the menu back and front, back and front, trying to figure out what I wanted, while looking around...

The menu is actually quite impressive and everything on there sounds mouth watering.  There's all day breakfast with a range of sweet and savoury dishes, salad, sandwiches, meat and fish dishes.  Food from NY, Scandinavian, English, Aussie, Parisian etc..  Guess everything to keep everyone happy! ;)

I finally decided to choose between a naughty or a nice (ish) dish..  A toss between Curly Kale Caesar Salad (poached eggs, crispy prosciutto, white anchovies, shaved parmesan, dried cranberries, pine nuts, garlic brioche , croutons crispy sweet potato ribbons & anchovy lemon dressing) or the Vegetarian Portobello Road

We were seated in the corner, and I had a good view of the workers busy clearing and picking up order from the kitchen

Jeez.. We are all seated very close to each other.. I feel like this is a speed dating set up! hehe... You can seriously hear your neighbour's conversation, and vice versa!

Interesting.. The food comes out and sits for a few seconds under those lights before being whizzed off by the busy waiters

I'm so hungry, I'm just staring at my cutleries...

Thankfully, she finally arrived, looking so happy!  20 minutes after!!  

Started with a mocktail - Mandarin Wilderness:  Ice blended raspberry, mandarin orange, banana and honey, $7..  Not too sweet and definitely an eye pleaser!  Great for the weather

Voila!!  Portobello Road:  Poached eggs, portobello mushrooms, wilted spinach, onion & bell pepper confit smothered with hollandaise sauce (that's the naughty part!) on wholemeal brioche (seriously, damn good!  There's oats and pine nuts in there), $24 ..  Looks really pretty!  

At the top is I Love NY:  creamy scrambled eggs with smoked sturgeon, smoked salmon, caramelised onions with toasted sesame bagel & herbed creamed cheese, $24

Just to be on the safe side.. I gave it the good poached egg prick with my knife.. and guess what came oozing out!!  YUMMMY OOOOZING EGG YOLK!!!  I was sooo happy!  

I had to say, was such a lovely meal.. I gobbled up everything on my plate.. Will definitely be back to try the rest of the menu..

Malaysian Kopitiam in London - Momo'wich

Was in London in June and a friend took me over here for Lunch on Sunday.  It's usually not open on Sundays but apparently they were having a pop up Kopitiam on Sundays.

So, after building up an appetite by wandering around the nearby markets (Spitalsfield and Brick Lane), we wandered over to check this place out.  The story behind this is, my friend knows the uncle of the owner..  You know how close knit some Asian communities are..  Great networking.  "My nephew is opening an eatery, so, please support and check it outlah!"

They have two branches and the one we went to was at Aldgate East.  I have to say, the prices were quite reasonable and the food were quite tasty.  You can takeaway or have them delivered as well.

Anyhow, here it is.  They had complimentary kaya toast for their popup Kopitiam on Sunday.. which were quite small in size... It's basically two pieces of bread, spread with kaya (coconut jam with sugar, coconut, milk and pandan) and butter, toasted, put together and cut into 4 pieces.  I've missed the taste of kaya, which is a stable breakfast diet of Malaysians and Singaporeans.. I'll happily eat them if they are free, but I'm not sure if I would pay  £3.50 for them

Let's not forget the teh tarik.  Another stable drink in Malaysia.  I ordered the iced version

Curry laksa (the works) - egg noodles & vermicelli with tofu, prawns, chicken and egg, bean sprouts, coriander & shallots -  £9.50

 The soup was definitely rich, spicy (just the way I like it!) and very tasty.  The servings were really big, but I managed to polished it all.  Originally I thought I was quite thirsty after eating it, but my friend said he had no such problems.  I could be imagining it as my thirst went away after a while.

Kopitiam atmosphere

Highlight when I was there?  A group of girls came in, each carrying blue plastic bags.  There were 4 of them.  I was fascinated as I wondered what they had in the bags.  Then, they took out their branded bags from the blue plastic bags... Then I realised it was drizzling outside ;p  No umbrellas for them, but their bags need to be protected ;)

Eating in Berlin.. Burgers? Kebabs? Steaks? Nom.. Nom...

Berlin is definitely a place to eat and drink without going over your budget!  We had a late dinner at a shack opposite our hotel on our first night and checked out a popular kebab and burger joint.  The only fancy place we actually ate was at the hotel for breakfast and veal schnitzel on our last day =)

Alcohol is so unbelievable cheap, I was so tempted in just drinking them instead of water. Unfortunately, that would have ruin our trip =(

The Romanisches Cafe is simply quite gorgeous.  We had breakfast here everyday.  It's nice and quiet which is perfect to start the day.  They have quite a lovely selections of cakes and cheese as well as daily lunch special.

I love how I had a sand timer to advise me when it's time to start drinking my tea..  Fancy, much?

Poached egg.  Runny and gooey, but unfortunately the vinegar taste was too much for my liking ;(

Mustafa's Gemuse Kebab

A friend of mine from Stockholm suggested we should try out this kebab place while in Berlin and not surprisingly S has already had this place in mind to take us to (He loves his kebabs and burgers =P )

The queue didn't look very long.  We were warned it'll take us around 30minutes and I actually thought maybe it was just an exaggeration.  Unfortunately, it ended up taking us over 1 hour as people queuing up in front of us had friends coming and going throughout the time we were waiting ;P

S was tempted to just try out the Curry 36 which is just a few steps away as it's quite popular as well. But we ended up just waiting for our kebab as we did come all the way here for the kebab!

S's kebab - minus all the cooked vegetables.. What a bad boy!

The kebab consist of salad (cucumber, tomatoes, onions, lettuce etc), feta, meat and vegetables (potatoes, eggplants, zucchini etc) and 3 different types of sauces.  S refused the vegetables as he hated eggplants and zucchini *sigh*  According to him, he had better as he wasn't keen on the feta in his kebab.  But the price is unbelievable and the serving is HUGE!  I could only eat about 1/2 of mine... ;x
